The AFC Children's Home

Artists for Charity operates a children's home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for HIV positive orphans. The Home provides all the basic necessitites for caring for these children, such as food, shelter, medical attention, and school fees and supplies. In addition to the bare minimum, however, the Home focuses on creating a small, family-like environment that resembles a typical home. Click here to visit the Artists for Charity Children's Home.

The Desta Project

The Desta project is a collection of projects and activities developed by Artists for Charity.  It was envisioned so that the AFC Children's Home could, in time, generate enough income to be self sustaining and, also, to provide the children with art and business skills so that one day they will be self sufficient and, in turn, help others.

The word "Desta" means happiness in Ethiopia.  The children came up with the name. The Desta project is a program which intends to promote international collaboration and volunteerism with a foundation based on creativity and action. The project invites both international volunteers and artists in residence to participate and share their talents and skills.  The Desta project offers individuals the opportunity to give back simply through their talents, but also to gain so much through their interaction with the children and the project.
